Rice For Dinner

I found this on another blog. Isn't this amazing? We are starting this; every little bit helps. What do you think?

"I don’t know how much you have read about the global food crisis that is currently happening, but the need is massive and the poor are suffering. A combination of natural disasters, rising oil prices, and a reduction in staple food items like rice are ravaging families who were already struggling to buy food for their family. Because of these factors inflation has kicked in and caused food prices to soar over the past few months. This rise in food prices triggered the recent outbreak of violence in Haiti and in Bangladesh the cost of a kilo of rice went from $.31 to $.56 in less than 3 months. Most of these families living in poverty earn less than $2 per day and most of them are skipping meals because of the increase in costs.families affected by this crisis. I will write a weekly guide for each week with stories from these countries and their specific needs so we can end that weekly meal praying for those in that specific country."Brian goes on to share how his family is going to make a difference..."As a family we have committed to do something small that can make a big difference in the lives of families very much like us around the world. Here is our plan:1) Take 10% of our food budget each week and give that money directly to the Compassion Food Crisis Fund. We have $300 budgeted for each week on all food/restaurant/vegetable co-op related items and we will give $30 each week to help these families.2) Spend one meal a week eating rice and learning about the different countries and families affected by this crisis. I will write a weekly guide for each week with stories from these countries and their specific needs so we can end that weekly meal praying for those in that specific country."This is not money that we are diverting from our tithe. We feel led to take this money directly from money that we would normally spend on food.Spread this idea and let’s join together to send thousands of dollars this summer to those in the most desperate of situationsJoin us in spending this summer sacrificing some of our food so that others can feed their families. How do you shine?

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn." Isaiah 60:1-3

Whenever I see our children smile, it's like they are glowing with this beaming light. A light that can shine through the thickest darkness. Their skin gets brighter, and their eye's twinkle. You can't help but smile back even when you are having a bad day. That is joy. I want Christ's love to shine through me onto others, I want to radiate his love so much that you can't help but smile, because you feel it too. What does that look like? How do we shine on other's?
